Below you will find information on marine engine fresh water cooling system conversion kits. These kits are manufactured in the USA by Monitor Products Inc. Monitor is the OEM of fresh water cooling kits for Mercruiser, Volvo, and many other manufacturers. We have used, installed, and sold Monitor kits for years and feel they are of excellent quality.

MONITOR FRESH WATER COOLING KITS

Most Monitor kits are of the block-only type with the engine block on the fresh water side and the exhaust manifolds remaining on the raw water side. Monitor is eliminating the inexpensive exhaust manifolds from the system in order to create superior cooling and corrosion protection for your costly engine block. The difference in installed cost between Monitor systems and the much more expensive full systems will more than pay for a set of replacement exhaust manifolds.

In general, the Monitor kits will fit engines manufactured from 1983 and on. In many cases the Monitor kits will fit earlier models with few to no modifications.

CONVERSION KIT FITS:

Late model GM (Chevy) based V6/V8 engines lacking power steering or with power steering pump mounted low on port side of engine. Typical application on OMC & Volvo Penta engine conversions.

SPACE REQUIREMENT

System mounts vertically on front starboard side of engine. Fits within overall height, width and length of engine. Expansion tank 9" wide, 9" high, 5" deep mounts separately on vertical surface next to engine. In case of unforeseen installation space problems kit may be returned within 30 days for full credit.

COOLING SYSTEM TYPE

Block only. Engine block on fresh water system. Exhaust manifolds remain on raw water system.

CONVERSION KIT

Kit includes heat exchanger, heavy-duty translucent plastic expansion tank plus all other components necessary to complete conversion. Some components from engine are reused. Heat exchanger painted black. Brackets and other components painted black or zinc plated. Hose clamps all stainless.

HEAT EXCHANGER

Shell and tube type. Specifically designed for the low cooling water flows, characteristic

of sterndrive engines. All copper alloy construction made to the highest industry

standards. Heavy-duty dual remountable clean out end covers. Zinc anode protection.

CONVERSION KIT FITS:

Chevy based big block V8 engines 454-502 CID both sterndrive, inboard and V-drive. Especially designed for the low capacity raw water pumps used on sterndrive engines. Will NOT fit most engines with high mounted alternators such as late model OMC engines. Separate kits are available for those engines. Some engines have fuel line routing and fuel filter location that must be changed slightly. Heat exchanger is 4 1/8" x 22.5" long and fits within overall length, width, and height of most engine conversions. Heat exchanger extends from the inside of the starboard exhaust manifold towards port side clearing most high mounted power steering pumps if any. See above illustration. Plastic expansion tank mounts either on front of heat exchanger or if space is limited on vertical surface next to engine.

CONVERSION KIT FITS

Ford based small block V/8 engines 302-351 CID, inboard and sterndrive, excluding V-drives. Especially designed for OMC Cobra engines but will fit other Ford conversions provided that space exists on front top of engine. See above illustrations. Heat exchanger is 4 1/8" x 19.5" long and fits within overall length width and height of most engine conversions. Plastic expansion tank mounts separately on vertical surface next to, engine.

COOLING SYSTEM TYPE

Block only. Engine block on fresh water system. Exhaust manifolds remain on raw water system. System utilizes a heat exchanger with a built in, full flow, bypass control thermostat ensuring optimal jacket water flow under all operating conditions.
